To redesign, or not to redesign – that is the question. If you are thinking that your website might be needing a little help, learn why you should redesign it and what to focus on for the redesign.

Why on earth would you want to go through the exhausting process of redesigning your website when you probably worked with blood, sweat and tears for countless hours to give life to your website? As time passes by, your website along with its design ages; want it or not every once in awhile you have to go back and make sure that your website is achieving its purpose. Observe, analyse and verify that your website is still user friendly and relevant to modern times. With the redesign of your website you expect to increase the page view per visit and decrease the bounce rate; which can be done by improving the user’s experience (UX) on your website.

What is important is that your website remains pertinent and the UX is practically perfect. To keep your website pertinent, you might have to go back to website design 101. Carrie Cousins gives ten “Crucial Factors” for website design.

  1. Organized and Similar Spacing
  2. Incredibly Simple Navigation
  3. Include an “About Us” section for Personality
  4. Clear and Visible Contact Information
  5. Enough Obvious Calls-to-Action
  6. Visible Working Search Engine
  7. Useful and Simple Informational Footer
  8. Have specific style for Buttons
  9. Great Images. That’s it.
  10. Use Web Fonts

With these crucial factors, you might realize whether your website is relevant or not and what you need to improve. It is not about completely changing your design (unless that is what you are going for) but about “refreshing” it. As for UX, you might just ask yourself: Is my website useful, usable, desirable, findable, accessible and credible?

If so, good for you! You are good to go!

Gabriel Shaoolian in The Huffington Post, gives five different reasons why you should redesign your website.

  1. An oversaturated Homepage.
  2. It’s Difficult to Contact you.
  3. You Don’t have  Responsive Design.
  4. Slow Site Speed.
  5. Poor Imagery.

In conclusion, if in an attempt to provide a kind amount of information you cluttered your website making it hard to understand, impossible to contact you and if in exchange for the impressive amounts of information you cluttered, you gave up the quantity and/or quality of your images

Please do redesign your website!

In this article we will analyse the redesign process of Vida & Estilo a real estate website.

La Guia Inmobiliaria Vida & Estilo recently went through a redesigning process of approximately three weeks. To compete against other local real estate websites, the redesigning process focused on increasing the page view per visit and decreasing the bounce rate through the improvement of the UX.

The redesigning process of Vida & Estilo consisted of 5 steps.

As a real estate website, it contains tons and tons of important information useful to a user looking for a property. Each property page had to include the property’s characteristics, life style, different models, available services, location map, contact information and a mortgage calculator. Using different tabulators, the information was easily displayed making it visible and aesthetically appealing for the users.

A momentous factor in a real estate website is the property search engine (PSE). Almost the 100% of the users of a real estate website use the PSE to find the type of property they are looking for. The effectiveness of the PSE is a life or death factor for a real estate website. In Vida & Estilo the PSE became the strongest focal point. Being the first thing you see, it is a huge and appealing search engine. Easy to understand and therefore easy to use for its simplicity.  The PSE allows you to search by keywords or by state, type of property, zone and price range.

One of the most influential latest designs is flat design. The use of simple, easy to understand illustrations appeals to usability; Its bright colours and crisp edges compose the minimalistic approach of flat design. The logo of Vida & Estilo was changed to a flat logo, to give it a “modern feeling”. All the icons and buttons are flat to keep the design relevant.

Most users of real estate websites search for properties through different devices as phones and tablets. A responsive website for different phones, tablets and laptops is a major influential factor.

Finally, to increase the site’s speed the resources of the Java and CSS libraries were optimized; following the different parameters set by Google.

It is not just an everyday decision to suddenly take on the arduous project of redesigning your website, yet sometimes it is necessary. Either you offer a service or sell a product, your website should always remain pertinent to modern times and your UX should be absolutely marvellous. There are different factors that can help you realize where you stand with the relevance and UX of your website. You can go back and deeply inspect the design of your website, this way you can asses the areas where the design needs to be improved and the areas that are working just perfectly as far as relevance goes. You should just make sure that you are not giving up something in order to have something else.

Do not eat the quantity and/or quality of your images for more information!
